Bethan Wall
Bethan Wall is a designer for performance who enjoys collaborating with makers, directors and other designers, in a process of in-depth research, exploration and experimentation through drawing and making. The questions of why we are telling a story, who it is for, and what are its cultural access points are central to her approach.
Bethan Wall studied Sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art and recently completed an MA in Design for Performance at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Candide – 2021
by Leonard Bernstein
Conceptual project at Wales Millennium Centre
Set in a shopping centre during the 2008 financial crisis.
These are places where anything can be found. An assemblage of constructed realities, created to make you feel like they are each the best of all possible worlds and if you buy this stuff then you can live in this perfect world.
Multiple worlds under one roof. With two distinct sides, one for customers, one for staff.
Corridors, systems for waste disposal, deliveries and staff rooms wrap around and secretly cut through the spaces for consumers. They are where you can go to eat, drink, cry – be an actual human. They take you from one type of space to another, and in our story they take Candide around the world and give him space for contemplation.

Urinetown – 2021
RWCMD at Sherman Theatre
In a world with very little water, there is almost no industry – or not as we know it. No jobs and no help from the government, everything has been privatised.
Nothing is waste any more, well, not for the poor. Everything has been repurposed or bodged – except for those in charge.
Cleanliness and hygiene are a privilege.
